Dr. Mekayla Castro is a senior behavioral scientist at BetterUp where she works to advance the science and practice of evidence-based coaching and behavior transformation in the workplace. Castro is trained as a social-organizational psychologist with expertise in assessment strategy, diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, leadership, organizational development, and talent strategy. She has spent more than 10 years helping organizations bridge science and practice, using evidence-based methods to design, implement, and sustain talent and organizational development initiatives that enable people and cultures to thrive.


Prior to BetterUp, Castro was director of global leadership and learning at American Express where she was responsible for coaching, executive development solutions and assessments. Before that she was a talent management consultant, practicing independently and as senior associate at Fisher Rock Consulting. She also spent time conducting research at Catalyst Inc., the leading nonprofit devoted to the creation and sustainability of inclusive workplaces, and taught research methods, executive coaching and intercultural communication as adjunct professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Castro completed her doctorate in social-organizational psychology and master’s in organizational psychology from Columbia University at Teachers College.
